There must be hundreds of annual gatherings around the world for the global F&A community but certainly only one that is definitively reshaping the future of the industry. It’s one of the reasons Ernst & Young LLP sponsored Beyond the Black, presented by BlackLine, and why EY leaders and speakers joined thousands of other attendees in September in San Diego, CA. Over three days, the event brought together the transformation tools, technologies and ideas that are going to change the way organizations operate – and some super fun opportunities for us all to connect, network and share thinking.

EY team on automating and innovating for the future

Our team on the ground kicked off several breakout sessions for attendees. In the session “Enabling an Automated, Scalable & Standardized R2R Solution” led by Darren Rykers, Global BlackLine Alliance Leader Ernst & Young LLP and Nicole Vernile, Manager and Program Leader Ernst & Young LLP. We aligned on up-front global design and creating a true integration strategy for the successful implementation of a transformational BlackLine tool for organizations to enhance controls and efficiencies.

EY Americas Innovation Leader Roger Park and David Adler, Managing Director, Technology and Consulting Ernst & Young LLP, hosted a deep-dive breakfast session, looking at the most common obstacles and levers of innovation that impact organizations and their teams. “Disrupt Disruptions: Envision the Future” did just that with practical, actionable advice for leaders to shape their business future.

Comprehensive agenda

A mix of BlackLine knowledge specialists and external speakers with real-life organizational scenario presentations covered a lot of ground in the three days of sessions and workshops. Key areas include financial close management and new ways to accelerate financial closes to create more time for business analysis; accounts receivable automation for improved cashflow and efficiency; and intercompany financial management strategies to manage global tax compliance. Other sessions included BlackLine U Training workshops providing deep-dive training in solutions, “Discovering BlackLine” and “Transformation and Change Management – how to plan for success.”

Creative connections

If you’ve never been to BeyondTheBlack, connection is a high priority – and it’s done creatively. The Innovation Hub is where current BlackLine customers received detailed and tailored feedback and guidance on how to get the most from BlackLine products. In the Sand Box, visitors got a sneak peek of upcoming innovations and discovered leading practices; and in the Customer Success Lab, specialists provided guidance for leaders wherever they are on the transformation journey. If all of that doesn’t sap your spirit for adventure, BeyondTheBlack is well known for exceptional experiences.

Talk about going beyond.
