Key Takeaways

• From Operating Model to Platform Vision: Building on the operating model introduced in London, BlackLine expanded the platform in Paris into a full trust infrastructure for AI-powered finance.

• Foundational Platform Engines: The expanded platform relies on a System-Agnostic Data Layer for operational context and a Financial Operating System that orchestrates AI-driven workflows within secure guardrails.

• Centralized AI Governance: The newly unveiled Finance Control Console acts as a centralized command center, giving finance leaders real-time visibility and control to govern AI across the financial record.

• Finance Control Console Preview Program: BlackLine has launched a preview program for select enterprise customers and strategic partners to collaborate on shaping AI governance in finance at scale.

Building the Future of Agentic Finance

This week, the BlackLine community of customers, prospects, and innovators gathered in France. They attended BeyondTheBlack Paris, a highly anticipated regional event.

To kick off the mainstage, Philippe Omer-Decugis, SVP of Sales and GM of EMEA, welcomed a rapidly expanding European community. This network now includes over 900 European clients, comprising 40% of the CAC 40, 57% of the DAX 40, and 46% of the FTSE 100.

Philippe reminded the audience that the DNA of BlackLine has always been rooted in solving practical, daily challenges. Indeed, BlackLine helps teams drive measurable value, including 30-50% reductions in close times.

The journey of finance transformation does not stop at basic efficiency. Tracing the evolution of the finance function, Philippe highlighted the shift from manual workflows to automated processes. This path leads to Agentic Financial Operations as the next frontier. This paradigm shift drives unprecedented precision, performance, and financial intelligence.

BlackLine first introduced Agentic Financial Operations at BeyondTheBlack London earlier this year. This new operating model enables humans and AI to work as one cohesive team. While London defined the Agentic Financial Operations model, Paris advanced the conversation. The Paris event answered how to build the required infrastructure to make it real at enterprise scale.

Owen Ryan, CEO, took the stage to expand on this evolution. He framed this new operating reality with a stark and urgent truth: "Latency in finance is no longer inconvenient. It's a risk." He established the central tension of the event and the core philosophy driving strategy at BlackLine. He stated unequivocally that "the more AI finance deploys, the more trust finance needs."

To build this, Owen broke down the Trust Infrastructure into three critical pillars. These are Data as the foundation of trust, Context as the system of control, and Agency as the power to drive outcomes. This is the thesis BlackLine brought to Paris. Every announcement that followed was built around it.

The Governance Gap

To understand why this Trust Infrastructure must be built now, Jeremy Ung, CTO, took the stage. He grounded Owen's high-level vision in urgent market realities.

The workforce is undergoing a massive shift, with 32 million jobs transforming annually amidst a staggering 85% talent shortage. But the most critical danger to the enterprise is unchecked automation, not just resource constraints.

"AI is accelerating faster than the guardrails," Jeremy warned the audience. He highlighted an incredible trajectory. By 2028, the average enterprise will use over 150,000 agents. Yet, only 13% of organizations currently believe they have the right AI governance in place.

This dynamic makes auditability and compliance exponentially more complex. CFOs will not delegate financial attestation to black-box models. Auditors will not accept "the AI decided" as an explanation. Furthermore, finance organizations cannot scale AI across the enterprise without a control layer they can stand behind.

An Expanded Platform Architecture Built for Trust

To bridge this exact governance gap, Jeremy detailed how BlackLine translates the need for Data, Context, and Agency into concrete architecture.

The expanded BlackLine Agentic Financial Operations Platform™ is built on a unique premise. In finance, trust is not a constraint on AI adoption. Instead, trust is the exact condition that makes adoption possible.

Powered by Studio360 and Verity™ AI, the expanded platform connects Record-to-Report and Invoice-to-Cash processes. It operates on a continuous, real-time plane.

Jeremy introduced the two foundational engines driving this platform:

• System-Agnostic Data Layer: Designed to integrate with foundational systems of record like SAP, Oracle, and Workday, as well as other enterprise applications. It combines transactional data, workflows, policies, controls, and operational context. This provides the intelligence required for AI to operate within complex, modern finance organizations.

• Financial Operating System: Orchestrates financial workflows and AI-driven activities within finance-defined controls, policies, and governance frameworks. This enables organizations to automate increasingly complex processes. Meanwhile, they operate strictly within the deterministic guardrails established by finance leadership.

Together, these engines move organizations beyond isolated AI pilots. They enable something more durable: trusted execution at scale.

Finance Control Console: The Command Center for Finance-Led AI

The natural climax of this architectural shift was the centerpiece announcement of BeyondTheBlack Paris: the Finance Control Console.

The Finance Control Console gives finance leaders a real-time operational view of AI activity. It enforces policies, manages exceptions, and maintains accountability across both BlackLine-native and third-party AI agents. Built on open standards, the console governs AI consistently across the full finance technology ecosystem. It produces an audit-ready, explainable record. This makes finance leadership and auditors comfortable putting AI to work at scale.

Finance Control Console Capability

Business Value for Controllers & Finance Leaders

Real-Time Visibility

Monitors all AI-driven financial operations and status as they happen.

Centralized Governance

Consistently enforces corporate policies and risk rules across the ecosystem.

End-to-End Auditability

Documents every automated action, providing a clear trail for compliance.

Explainable Decision Records

Human-in-the-Loop Management

Flags deviations and empowers finance professionals to manage and clear exceptions.

Multi-Agent Oversight

Unifies governance across both BlackLine-native and external third-party AI agents.

This is not a reporting layer on top of automation. Instead, it serves as the governance infrastructure that makes accountable AI possible in the first place.

The Finance Control Console Preview Program

BlackLine also announced the Finance Control Console Preview Program. This is a limited engagement for select enterprise customers and strategic partners. Participants gain early access to console capabilities, collaborate on governance frameworks, and help establish emerging best practices for Agentic Financial Operations.

BlackLine is working closely with highly mature organizations. Their scale and complexity make them ideal partners for shaping enterprise AI governance at its best.

The Road from London to Paris, & What Comes Next

Agentic Financial Operations launched in London as an operating model. In Paris, it became a platform vision. The throughline is a long-standing conviction at BlackLine. The Office of the CFO deserves AI built specifically for the rigorous standards of finance.

It requires more than general-purpose models adapted for finance. It requires more than automation that moves fast and ignores governance. The goal is a platform where finance puts AI to work. It must govern AI at every step and guarantee integrity across the financial record in real time.

That is what BeyondTheBlack Paris announced, and it is what BlackLine is building. As we execute against this platform vision, expect more updates in the months ahead. Stay tuned as we progress toward the future of Agentic Financial Operations.
