BlackLine Data Center Addition
and Migration Support FAQs

Our Commitment

In order to continue to provide the highest level of service to you, BlackLine will be adding another U.S. data center and moving half of its clients from our Culpeper, Virginia site to Las Vegas, Nevada at Switch’s SUPERNAP, where we can ensure that your needs will be met from coast to coast for the long term.

BlackLine will provide a new web address (URL) for you to use to access your sandbox and production system. This new URL should be used once you transition to the new data center.

For a short period of time, a redirect will be in place so that any user accessing via the old URL will be directed to the new URL.

No, but there will be no impact to the rest of our clients while other scheduled migrations are occurring.
BlackLine’s technical and support teams will perform our migration. Information will be securely transferred to the new data center over high-speed private secure circuits between data centers. BlackLine has thoroughly documented and tested the migration procedures. All standard BlackLine security controls will remain in place, including firewalls, intrusion detection, vulnerability management, configuration management, real-time monitoring and alerting. You can expect the same world-class level of security that you always receive from BlackLine.
Yes, data is encrypted/protected while at rest.
With former-military security guards, and what Switch touts as “the best software security of any data center out there,” this place is serious business. In addition, our Culpeper, Virginia site and our new Las Vegas, Nevada site will become disaster recovery sites to each other to ensure you have optimal security in place coast to coast.
BlackLine will retain a copy of each client's data in the Culpeper data center until our operations team confirms a successful migration for that client, and we will retain backups for 30 days.
BlackLine will continue data replication in near real-time between our Culpeper, Virginia site and our Las Vegas, Nevada site.
Our Culpeper, Virginia site and our Las Vegas, Nevada site will act as failover to each other for disaster recovery.
In the new data center, all client data will reside within BlackLine’s private infrastructure, which will be managed by the BlackLine production operations team.
Yes, there will be no interruption to BlackLine’s SSAE 16 audit controls.
No, you will be unable to copy data from your production database to your sandbox database during the data migration. If you would like your sandbox refreshed with production data, please request the data copied at least one week prior to your migration date.
The SuperNAP features a tri-redundant system, with three separate power supplies for its servers (ensuring that even if one goes down, the server will keep on going) and even features its own generators in case the power goes out. What’s more, it’s highly energy efficient with a patented cooling system, which allows for incredibly effective cooling and can run indefinitely without water. Interestingly, 70% of the year when Las Vegas has temperatures of less than 72 degrees, the entire SuperNAP facility is cooled by outside air. This makes it one of the most efficient data centers in the world.
