Job Summary

As the Product Marketing Director you will be a prolific contributor and leader on the team responsible for telling the story of BlackLine in the DACH region. This role puts you in the middle of the business - you will be the glue that binds our product strategy to the tactics we need to drive success in sales and marketing. You back up strategic insights with market evidence and then use that knowledge to drive the development of positioning and messaging that resonates with accounting organisations.


You will also collaborate with strategic alliance partners such as EY, Deloitte, and SAP to ensure message alignment and success across the DACH region. You will be a thought leader, being adventurous with content and messaging, and presenting to audiences of anywhere from 10 to 1,000 people. This is an exciting and critical role at BlackLine, one that requires both strategic leadership and a bias toward action.

Roles and Responsibility (list in order of importance) 


Core Expertise & Responsibilities

  • Direct and execute product marketing initiatives in the DACH region
  • Present plans, budgets, results and analysis to other BlackLine leaders including the Director of Product Marketing EMEA, Sales and Marketing Leadership, Customer Operations, and others
  • Develop a thorough understanding of BlackLine’s solutions, market landscape, competitors, and customer needs
  • Arming Marketing with key market, persona and segmentation data so they can deliver highly targeted campaigns that convert, and enabling their optimization of the marketing funnel to provide high quality leads
  • Interviewing customers (and occasionally supplying them) for valuable insights, and case study development
  • Serving as a product evangelist and public speaker and own content for live events for both internal and external activities
  • Collaborate cross-functionally including sales, customer success, product and solutions management, and the broader marketing team to ensure effectiveness of marketing strategies, activities, and materials
  • Partner with product management and make recommendations to ensure that product development and support include proper marketing positioning in all communication of launches and releases
  • Be a constant, loud voice of the customer


Driving Strategic GTM Initiatives

  • Lead, align, and deliver on a product marketing plan to support the global marketing goals, those of Sales Leadership in the DACH region, and Alliances Marketing as we jointly go to market with EY, Deloitte, and SAP
  • Collaborate and align with SAP as a strategic partner with which we go to market together
  • Define the customer value proposition and author strategic messaging for sales, marketing, and strategic partners in the DACH region
  • Fuelling strategic GTM teams with customer insights so they know what people do and don't like, what there's demand for, how users are using the product, and more
  • Providing in-depth data on things like a customer's goals, pain-points, drivers, traits, and so on, so sales and customer-facing teams can provide tailored conversations and successfully handle objections


Leading European Marketing Initiatives

  • Oversee translation process to ensure accuracy of content into German and other European languages such as French and Spanish in collaboration with the Global Content Marketing team
  • Remain current on and fluent on in market trends impacting Europe, including new and existing regulatory requirements (e.g. IFRS 17, “UK SOX”), emerging technologies, and significant news in the region
  • Conduct market research and competitive analysis and recommend differentiated positioning and programs to reach new customers
  • Actively seek out new opportunities to spread BlackLine’s differentiated message across every channel – in print, ads, tradeshow, etc. – in collaboration with broader DACH Marketing team






Required Qualifications

Years of Experience in Related Field: 5-8+ years in product marketing with experience in managing product launches and customer marketing; prefer experience in cloud Finance & Accounting field such as with ERP, EPM, financial close, FP&A, or similar solutions

Education: Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Marketing or a role-related field

Technical/Specialized Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Enterprise Performance Management
  • ERP, especially previous experience with SAP ERP solutions
  • Financial Close
  • Financial Planning & Analysis
  • Consolidation


  • Bilingual Proficiency – German and English – Communicating most effectively in the DACH region requires expertise in reading, writing, and presenting in both German and English
