Why BlackLine: Our Community

BlackLine’s users are fun and passionate about doing things in the best possible way. They are active in making suggestions, helping each other and talking about BlackLine with the greater accounting community. To foster that involvement, BlackLine has created different venues in which our clients and users can participate.

The BlackLine Community is an online bulletin board available to all users. This provides a place where users can pose questions and get answers either from other users or from BlackLine employees; log enhancement ideas that garner votes; and prompt discussions. The online community also provides a venue for praising certain features and BlackLine staff or reporting problems. Many tips and best practices are readily available as well as quick links to training and other materials. At any given time, hundreds of users are logged into the tool, making the BlackLine Community a vibrant, ever-growing resource.

BUGs

BUGs, which stands for BlackLine User Groups (not software defects), are regional, client-run get togethers for BlackLine clients. Usually lasting only a half day, the BUGs meetings feature a client presentation, a guest speaker or two (from either BlackLine or one of its partners), networking and food. It’s a great opportunity for regional clients to get together and discuss pertinent issues in their fields. One recent BUGs group had an IFRS expert as the guest speaker. Another had a session on some of the new features in BlackLine that others hadn’t started using yet. The timing, format and location of each BUGs meeting is completely up to the elected leader in that region. While most BUGs groups are located in the United States, a recent BUGs group was formed in Bangladesh, and there are several in Europe. Roundtables

Roundtables are put on by BlackLine partners around the world. They usually include a mix of BlackLine clients and partners, and the topics covered may range from finance transformation to BlackLine usage to a variety of other topics of interest. They generally provide valuable information, great networking and plenty to eat. Annual User Conference

Each year, BlackLine holds its main User Conference somewhere in the U.S. It is typically very well attended and runs for three and a half days. It is a multi-track conference that is suitable for both new users as well as advanced users of BlackLine. There are interesting presentations from a variety of keynote speakers. BlackLine clients, both as individuals and panels, candidly discuss their uses, challenges and best practices.  As part of the user conference, BlackLine offers a Customer Success Lab, where users can schedule one-on-one face time with BlackLine staff from Implementations, Support and WhiteGlove to get questions answered and solve problems. Watch the Looking Back @ User Conference 2012 video here. Learn more about User Conferences.

Giving Back

A big part of BlackLine’s Community is giving back. Each year, in the days preceding our User Conference, BlackLine organizes a community event, and we invite our clients to participate. We have built homes in New Orleans with Habitat for Humanity, spruced up neighborhoods in Las Vegas and cooked and served meals for the residents of San Francisco at GLIDE. Please watch the Giving Back with GLIDE video here.
